About the role

The Nurse Educator – Surgical Wards leads clinical education for paediatric surgical nurses, creating learning programs, coordinating teaching, and supporting staff capability. The role provides expert guidance, develops education frameworks and partners with NUMs and clinicians to lift practice.

Key duties of the role

  • Build and deliver education programs that strengthen surgical nursing capability.
  • Lead teaching, assessment and competency development across paediatric surgical wards.
  • Drive quality, safety and risk education to support safer clinical practice.
  • Guide change, mentor staff and support leadership development across the wards.
  • Coordinate projects and use evidence to improve education outcomes and service delivery

Skills and Experience

  • Registered Nurse/Midwife with current AHPRA registration.
  • Minimum 3+ years post-registration; surgical and/or paediatric experience.
  • Proven experience in nursing education or staff development.
  • Strong leadership, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to design, deliver and evaluate education programs using evidence-based approaches.
