About the role: 

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, some of your duties for the role will include:

  • Provide cultural support and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and families
  • Facilitate communication between healthcare teams and community members
  • Deliver cultural awareness education to clinical and administrative staff
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local Aboriginal organisations and community groups
  • Support discharge planning and care coordination for Aboriginal patients

About you:

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally sensitive and accountable manner with Aboriginal individuals, families and communities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with Aboriginal people, non-Aboriginal people, health workers and other organisations
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and community issues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in advocacy or community liaison roles preferred
