About the Role
As a Consultant in Gastroenterology, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across Lyell McEwin and Hospital. This position offers the opportunity to:
- Provide comprehensive clinical services in gastroenterology, including advanced endoscopic procedures.
- Lead and supervise junior medical staff, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.
- Contribute to teaching programs for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Engage in cutting-edge research projects in areas such as advanced endoscopic imaging, ERCP, EUS, and hepatology.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and strategic planning.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
You will also be involved in on-call activities and play a key role in shaping the future of gastroenterology services within NALHN.
The Total Indicative Remuneration figure is calculated taking into account base salary, leave loading and superannuation as well as managerial allowances, professional development or any other allowances where appropriate.
About You
You are an experienced gastroenterologist with:
- Advanced skills in gastroenterology procedures, including endoscopy.
- A strong commitment to clinical excellence, teaching, and research.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Dedication to continuous quality improvement and patient safety.
To be eligible for appointment to this role, you must hold:
- Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent.
- Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award.
A higher degree (MD, PhD) and experience in research or publications will be highly regarded.
About the Division of Surgical Specialties and Anaesthesia
The Division of Surgical Specialties and Anaesthesia provides a wide range of surgical and procedural services at the Lyell McEwin Hospital and Modbury Hospital.
The division includes a team of highly skilled and dedicated surgeons, proceduralists, anaesthetists, nurses, and support staff who work together to provide comprehensive surgical care to patients. The division offers a range of surgical services, including anaesthetics and post-operative care, acute surgical unit, breast/endocrine, colorectal, ENT, general surgery (including plastics) gastroenterology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, urology, upper GI, and elective vascular surgery.
In addition to providing excellent surgical, endoscopic and anaesthetic care, the division is also committed to research and education. The division conducts research studies to improve patient outcomes, and the staff are actively involved in teaching and mentoring students and trainees.

Lyell McEwin Hospital – The major hospital in the north and north-east for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetrics, paediatrics and outpatient services.
Modbury Hospital – A general hospital with emergency care, elective surgery, medicine, outpatient and sub-acute services, rehabilitation, geriatric and palliative care.
Mental Health - The Division of Mental Health provides a comprehensive range of public mental health services for youth, adults and older people in northern Adelaide. Services are provided through community health centres and hospitals, and to consumers in their own homes.
Forensic Mental Health - A statewide service that operates as part of the Division of Mental Health for forensic patients and prisoners.
Community Sites - Elizabeth GP Plus, Modbury GP Plus and Gilles Plains GP Plus Super Clinics providing community based care.
