About the role

As a Medical Scientist, you’ll play a vital part in delivering high-quality diagnostic services that support patient care across our community. In this hands-on role, you’ll apply your scientific and technical expertise to perform a variety of routine diagnostic techniques, including pre-transfusion testing, antenatal serology and antibody investigations. You’ll also be responsible for the accurate dispatch of blood and blood products, along with validating quality control results to ensure our testing processes remain safe, reliable and of the highest standard.

Working collaboratively within a supportive team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to problem definition, planning, execution, analysis and reporting across a range of laboratory activities. With guidance from senior scientists, you’ll also be encouraged to participate in the development, selection and implementation of new techniques and methodologies—making this an ideal position for someone eager to grow their skills, embrace innovation and make a meaningful impact in the field of transfusion science.

About You

You’re a motivated and detail-focused Medical Scientist who brings strong technical capability, reliable work habits and a commitment to high-quality laboratory practice.

  • Qualified and knowledgeable, holding a Bachelor of Science/Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent, with sound understanding of laboratory principles, equipment and quality procedures.

  • Skilled in diagnostic testing, able to follow established procedures, troubleshoot equipment, use laboratory software and deliver accurate, high-quality results with limited supervision.

  • Collaborative and proactive, working effectively in a team, communicating clearly, managing confidential information professionally and showing initiative by identifying issues and alerting senior staff.

  • Organised and dependable, demonstrating strong time-management and prioritisation skills, punctuality, customer service focus and experience with analytical equipment, data processing and general laboratory operations.
