Take on a pivotal role where your advanced clinical coding expertise directly supports high-quality patient data, reliable reporting, and accurate Activity Based Funding across the Limestone Coast Local Health Network. As an Advanced Clinical Coder, you’ll apply your specialist knowledge of ICD-10-AM, AR-DRGs, and national/state coding standards to ensure the delivery of precise, timely and meaningful coded data. This role offers the chance to influence coding quality, mentor developing coders, collaborate closely with clinicians, and contribute to improved documentation, data integrity, and clinical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate, timely and advanced ICD-10-AM coding across a broad casemix, ensuring correct code allocation, sequencing and AR-DRG assignment.
- Undertake quality assurance, auditing and data validation to meet National, State and LHN coding standards and KPIs.
- Identify documentation or coding issues, collaborate with clinicians for clarification, and support improvements in documentation quality.
- Provide coding education, mentoring and guidance to coders, trainees and clinical teams.
- Contribute to casemix/ABF reporting accuracy by maintaining high coding consistency, monitoring impacts of corrections/adjustments, and preparing reports.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, system enhancements and classification updates.
- Use advanced computer systems, databases and hospital information platforms to complete coding and reporting requirements.
Who Are We Looking For?
- Do you hold at least three years of post-training, full-time equivalent coding experience within a Clinical Coding Service?
- Have you successfully completed the HIMAA Intermediate Clinical Coding Course (current edition) and developed proven advanced competency in ICD-10-AM coding?
- Do you bring experience in auditing, coding accuracy evaluation, and supporting data quality improvements?
- Are you confident using advanced computer applications such as Access databases and the Health Information Portal (HIP) to analyse data and run reports?
- Do you have a background in medical records administration or health services, ideally within a hospital environment?
- Are you able to mentor others, communicate effectively with clinicians, and contribute to a constructive, quality-focused coding environment?
- Are you committed to ongoing professional development and staying current with updates to national and state coding standards?
