Overview

Wallaroo Hospital is seeking experienced and dedicated Ward Consultant to provide high-quality medical care across our acute wards. You will play a key leadership role in the assessment, management, and treatment of patients referred from GPs, Emergency Departments, other hospitals, and community services. This position is central to ensuring safe, effective, and person-centred medical care while contributing to continuous improvement, teaching, and the development of junior medical staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical care to inpatients, including early review, diagnosis, treatment planning, and discharge coordination.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and oversee the medical management of patients across acute wards.
  • Lead and support junior medical staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Participate in service meetings, hospital committees, quality improvement initiatives, and site accreditation activities.
  • Ensure timely, accurate clinical documentation and effective communication with GPs and other health professionals.
  • Contribute to the teaching of medical students, interns, and postgraduate trainees.
  • Support compliance with SA Health policies, clinical standards, and legislative requirements.

Who Are We Looking For?

  • We are seeking motivated medical professionals who can demonstrate:
  • Fellowship with RACGP, ACRRM, or RACP, with experience in General Medicine or Acute Medicine.
  • High-level clinical expertise, sound medical judgement, and the ability to manage complex patients in a non-tertiary setting.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A commitment to teaching, mentoring, and clinical education.
  • An understanding of culturally appropriate care, including working effectively with Aboriginal consumers and communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality care, and continuous improvement.
