About the role: The position is accountable to the Director, Surgery and Perioperative Medicine Division, through the Departmental Head. The applicant will provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to patients of Flinders Medical Centre, both in terms of individual performance and by contributing to a multi-disciplinary approach to the delivery of patient care, teaching and research. The applicant will practice in accordance with Flinders Medical Centre policies, procedures and guidelines. CTSU FMC provides services to patients outside SALHN and consultants may be required to provide consultative, meeting, or procedural services at other sites, including Royal Darwin Hospital.

About you:

  • Ability to act as a role model for medical students and junior medical staff
  • Proven level of skills to enable successful performance in cardiac and thoracic surgery
  • Experience in clinical education and accreditation activities
  • Ability to communicate, both written and verbally, effectively with a wide range of people including colleagues and other professional staff possessing excellent interpersonal skills
  • Recent experience (<2 years) in surgical management of advanced heart failure, including mechanical assist devices, extracorporeal life support (ECLS), and thoracic organ retrieval and transplantation
  • Recent experience (<5 years) in paediatric cardiac surgery and/or paediatric ECLS
  • Recent experience (<2 years) in minimally invasive cardiac surgery
