Public Health Services within South Australia are organised into ten Local Health Networks (LHNs). These include Southern Adelaide, Northern Adelaide, Central Adelaide, Women’s and Children’s and Six Regional Health Networks. There are also several Statewide Clinical Support Services including SA Medical Imaging, SA Pathology, SA Pharmacy and BreastScreen SA.
SA Medical Imaging (SAMI) was created to provide a comprehensive and unified medical imaging service to the public health system in South Australia; to improve efficiency and provide a more cohesive, consistent, and accessible statewide service.
The consolidation of medical imaging services has achieved the following clinical and technical outcomes:
- Streamlined imaging service delivery options
- Reduction of unnecessary duplication of services
- Sustained enhanced clinical contribution of services to support safe and effective patient outcomes
- Maximised productivity and efficiency
- Maximised opportunities for efficient resource utilisation and
- Maximised opportunities to engage with primary care.
Within this context, the position of Radiology Registrar will include involvement in the South Australian Radiology Training (SART) Network. This may include placement and rotations to Flinders Medical Centre (including the Repatriation Health Precinct), Royal Adelaide Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lyell McEwin Health Service, Women’s and Children’s Hospital and possible rotation to the Royal Darwin Hospital.
The Radiology Registrar will rotate through a series of locations within each department designed to provide wide exposure to various medical imaging settings, while contributing to the provision of clinical services to inpatients and outpatients.
Under the supervision of a Consultant Radiologist in the Department of Radiology, and the site Director(s) of Training, the Radiology Registrar will undertake routine diagnostic imaging, reporting and procedures within the Department, its annexes and other areas serviced by the Department.

As a Trainee Radiology Registrar with SA Medical Imaging (SAMI), you will join a truly statewide service dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred medical imaging across South Australia’s public health system. SAMI brings together imaging services from metropolitan and regional Local Health Networks to create a cohesive, efficient and clinically excellent service. Through streamlined service delivery, reduced duplication and strong clinical integration, SAMI plays a vital role in supporting safe, effective patient outcomes while maximising productivity, innovation and collaboration with primary care.
This role offers exceptional training breadth through participation in the South Australian Radiology Training (SART) Network, with rotations across leading tertiary and specialty centres including Flinders Medical Centre, Royal Adelaide Hospital, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lyell McEwin Health Service and Women’s and Children’s Hospital. You will gain wide exposure to diverse imaging modalities and clinical environments, contributing to both inpatient and outpatient services while developing your skills under expert supervision. Hold an MBBS or equivalent qualification with General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia, are eligible to practise radiology under relevant South Australian legislation, and have completed at least two postgraduate years (or will be PGY3 at commencement).

Demonstrate clinical excellence, sound knowledge of radiology service delivery, and a strong commitment to continuing medical education, quality improvement, audit and research activities.

Communicate confidently and empathetically, with high-level interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams, including participation in clinical meetings.

Perform well under pressure, showing adaptability, problem-solving and decision-making skills, while upholding patient rights, safety, quality management principles, and legislative requirements including EEO and WHS.
