Join SA Health's Drug and Alcohol Services team as a Casual Nurse, providing essential care to clients during their withdrawal and recovery journey in our Adelaide CBD facility. You'll deliver compassionate, non-judgmental nursing support while working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to helping people overcome substance use challenges. About the role: 

Reporting to the Advanced Nurse Manager, this role is responsible for the assessment and delivery of comprehensive nursing care and the individual case management of clients living with drug and alcohol problems, and their families/carers within any designated practice setting within DASSA

Duties for the role will include:

  • Assess individual patient/client needs, plan, implement and/or coordinate appropriate service delivery from a range of accepted options including other disciplines or agencies,
  • Provide direct person centred nursing/midwifery care and/or individual case management to patients/clients on a shift by shift basis in a defined clinical area with increasing autonomy over time,
  • Plan and coordinate services with other disciplines or agencies in providing individual health care needs,
  • Conducting a comprehensive nursing and Bio-psycho-social assessment including nursing observations,
  • Participate in quality improvement activities that contribute to patient/client safety, risk minimisation and safe work activities within the practice setting,
  • Ensure that needs for support and clinical supervision are met in accord with DASSA policies,
  • Ensure knowledge, skills and service provision is in keeping with current alcohol and other drug practices by accessing the latest literature, attending professional and DASSA seminars and workshops

About you:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate,
  • Effective communication skills including, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills,
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team,
  • Ability to prioritise workload,
  • Ability to be, creative, innovative and flexible when approaching issues within a healthcare setting,
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing consumer/client and family centred care,
  • Effective communication skills including, IT skills (basic computing skills, including email and word processing) problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills with clear and concise communication,
  • Care for clients whose physical health is compromised because of the use of alcohol and other drugs,
  • Demonstrated competence in AOD Nursing practice in accordance with the relevant standards,
  • Recent experience in drug and alcohol withdrawal management bio-psycho-social assessment, the principles of primary health care and harm minimisation preferred but not required
