About the Role:

Join our team as an  Join Aboriginal Liaison Officer and play a vital role in improving health outcomes for Aboriginal people by providing culturally appropriate liaison, advocacy, and support within the hospital and broader health system. Working collaboratively with clinical teams, community organisations, and Aboriginal clients, the role supports continuity of care, improves access to services, and promotes culturally safe practice across the health setting. This is an opportunity to use your expertise and leadership to create meaningful, lasting change in the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a cultural advocate and liaison between Aboriginal patients, families, communities, and health service staff to support culturally safe care.
  • Support Aboriginal patients through admission, case conferencing, discharge planning, and follow-up, improving continuity of care and health outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal communities, service providers, and internal multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide health education, advocacy, and navigation support to assist Aboriginal people to access appropriate health and community services.

About You

  • You have experience working with Aboriginal people and communities, with a strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures, values, and health perspectives.
  • You demonstrate excellent communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • You can work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health environment, managing priorities effectively.
  • You hold (or are eligible to hold) a Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (or equivalent), and meet mandatory screening requirements.

Applicant Information:

  • Flinders and Upper North Local Health Network has determined that an exemption to prefer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants granted by the Equal Opportunity Tribunal of South Australia under sections 34(2) and 56(2) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA) applies to this position. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is considered essential and therefore a Confirmation of Aboriginality may be requested.
  • This is a part time vacancy, working 48 hours per fortnight and salary will be adjusted according to actual hours worked.

  • Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check and Immunisation compliance as indicated on the Role description.
