About Midwifery Group Practice

Midwifery Group Practice is a women-centred, evidenced based model of care, providing midwifery care to women and their families across the pregnancy continuum. Care is provided in a variety of settings including; at home, community centres, the birthing centre, delivery suite, theatre and across units of Women's and Babies Division of WCHN. 

About the role

The Midwifery Unit Manager provides line management and clinical coordination to ensure safe, high-quality patient care within Women’s and Babies. The role drives evidence-based practice, workforce performance, quality improvement, risk management and efficient service delivery while fostering a positive, accountable team culture.

Key duties of the role

  • Integrate contemporary information and evidence with personal experience to support decisions and analysis
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of corporate policies and processes
  • Maintain productive working relationships and manage conflict resolution.
  • Change local processes and practices in accordance with emerging service needs
  • Provide leadership and coordination to achieve quality care and outcomes.

Skills and Experience

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife or Nurse and Midwife by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practising certificate
  • Registered Midwife with at least 3 years post graduate experience
  • Experience in problem solving, negotiation and conflict management
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills to motivate staff to achieve positive outcomes
  • Ability to foster a workplace environment that develops staff potential
