Join our Bioinformatician Talent Pool

Be ready to contribute your expertise to advanced genomic analysis as opportunities arise, supporting diagnostic and research outcomes that make a real difference to patient care.

About the role

As a Bioinformatician (PO2 / PO3), you’ll work at the intersection of data, science and patient care, contributing to advanced genome analysis that supports real-world diagnostic and research outcomes. You’ll help build, maintain and enhance genome analysis pipelines used in service delivery, collaborating closely with scientists, bioinformatics colleagues and clinical teams across the Genetics and Molecular Pathology (GMP) directorate within SA Pathology.

At the PO3 level, this role offers broader scope and technical depth, with opportunities to support high-throughput genomic technologies, contribute to scalable platforms for analysing and sharing clinical and genetic data, and apply established algorithms for human genomic analysis. You’ll work alongside internal technology and cancer genomics teams, ICT partners and clinicians to support Next Generation Sequencing infrastructure and deliver insights that matter. If you’re motivated by collaboration, innovation and the chance to see your work make a meaningful impact on patient care, this is an opportunity to grow your expertise in a highly specialised and purpose-driven environment.

About you

You’re an analytical and motivated Bioinformatician who enjoys working with complex genomic data and contributing to work that has real clinical and research impact. Roles are available at PO2 and PO3 level, with appointment based on your qualifications, experience and demonstrated capability.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with a Bachelor of Science, Applied Science or equivalent
  • Proven technical capability in data analysis, software development and genome analysis pipeline development
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to analyse complex information and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • High attention to detail and accountability, with the ability to work independently under direction (PO2) or with greater autonomy (PO3)
