About the role

As a Bioinformatician employed by SA Pathology, working with AusTrakka and representing SA Health, you will play a pivotal role in supporting national genomics surveillance and public health initiatives across Australia. You will contribute your expertise to the analysis and reporting of critical data, including monthly national genomics surveillance reports and COVID-19 reporting under the Australian National Disease Surveillance Plan. In this role, you will also support the development, implementation, and maintenance of AusTrakka protocols and policies, represent the program in meetings and presentations, and collaborate closely with the Development Team to refine and enhance the AusTrakka platform and service. Your contributions will directly support the delivery of the AusTrakka work program and its commitments to national public health priorities.

Beyond reporting and analysis, this role offers the opportunity to actively contribute to the growth of bioinformatics and genomics epidemiology capacity across Australia. You will help develop and deliver training and teaching materials for the Communicable Diseases Genomics Network (CDGN), participate in relevant working and user group meetings, and provide expert input to ensure best-practice approaches across the program. About You

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Bioinformatician who thrives in a collaborative, research-focused environment and is passionate about contributing to national genomics surveillance and public health initiatives.

  • You hold a recognised degree in medical science or equivalent, with additional qualifications in public health or related fields, and possess a strong foundation in genetics and laboratory research.

  • You have proven experience in analysing, interpreting, and communicating complex epidemiological or genomic data, with a track record in publications, reports, or presentations.

  • You demonstrate strong leadership, collaboration, and mentoring skills, and are capable of guiding and developing staff while working effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.

  • You are highly organised, proactive, and technically proficient, with experience in bioinformatics databases, research governance, laboratory procedures, and the application of specialised computer and analytical tools.
