About the Role:
An exciting opportunity is available to work within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network as a Registered Nurse with perioperative expertise to join the Anaesthetic and/or Recovery team within the Division of Surgical Specialities and Anaesthesia. These roles offer the chance to work in a modern, high‑performing perioperative environment, supporting patients through their surgical journey with skill, compassion and professionalism.
The perioperative suite at the Lyell McEwin Hospital contains:
- theatre holding bay
- 9 operating theatres
- 1 procedure room
- 18 bay recovery unit
The perioperative suite at the Modbury Hospital contains:
- theatre holding bay
- 4 operating rooms
- 2 procedure room
- 11 bay recovery unit
We perform high acuity complex surgeries including, but not limited to, liver resections, major colorectal and upper GI surgery, urology surgery, complex caesarean sections, bariatric surgery, major and trauma orthopaedics. Other types of procedures performed include gynaecology, ophthalmology, plastics, ENT, paediatric, dental, ECT, gastroscopies and colonoscopies.
Lyell McEwin Recovery department is a 7-day service and Modbury Anaesthetic and Recovery department is a Monday to Friday service with staff participation in on-call. You may be required to work across both sites. We offer a supportive environment that facilitates a positive learning culture.
Role includes:
- Providing skilled anaesthetic nursing support and/or recovery care across elective and emergency surgical lists
- Monitoring, assessing, and responding to patient conditions throughout the perioperative continuum
- Collaborating with anaesthetists, surgeons, and the broader perioperative team to maintain clinical safety standards
- Contributing to unit quality improvement activities and supporting less experienced staff in day-to-day practice

To be eligible for this position:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Demonstrated experience in anaesthetic and/or post-anaesthetic recovery nursing within an acute hospital setting
- Sound clinical assessment skills and confidence managing perioperative emergencies
- Familiarity with SA Health policies, clinical standards, and infection prevention requirements
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively under pressure
- Commitment to person-centred care and continuous professional development
To be eligible for this position, you must be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.

NALHN provides a range of hospital (inpatient), outpatient, community and home-based services across multiple sites in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs, including Aboriginal health, mental health, and GP services.
Lyell McEwin Hospital – the major hospital in northern Adelaide for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetric, paediatrics and outpatient services.
