Port Pirie Regional Health Service (PPRHS)

Port Pirie Regional Health Service is a 52-bed acute facility delivering a comprehensive range of services, including:

  • Emergency care
  • Peri-operative services

  • Acute medical and surgical care

The service also includes the co-located Hammill House Residential Aged Care Facility.

With over 15,000 Emergency Department presentations annually, alongside surgical and direct admissions across all age groups, PPRHS is supported by:

Current Nursing Opportunities

Acute Medical / Palliative Care Unit (Ward A) – Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses

Ward A is a dynamic unit providing comprehensive, person-centred care across the lifespan. The unit manages acute medical conditions of varying acuity, including:

  • Paediatric patients
  • Mental health presentations
  • Palliative and end-of-life care

You will be supported to develop specialist skills in:

  • Cardiac monitoring and telemetry
  • Advanced Life Support, including participation in the Medical Emergency Response (MER) Team
  • Palliative and end-of-life care
  • Mental health management

Surgical / Delivery Suite (Ward C) - Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses

Ward C provides care for post-operative patients, postnatal women, and newborns. The unit specialises in post-operative care for:

  • Orthopaedic
  • ENT
  • General surgery
  • Urology
  • Endoscopic and dental procedures

The ward also includes a midwifery-led delivery suite and is supported by a highly skilled multidisciplinary team delivering care aligned with each patient’s individual goals.

Renal Dialysis Unit – Registered Nurses

The Dialysis Unit operates as an outreach satellite of the Central Northern Adelaide Renal and Transplantation Service.

  • 4-chair haemodialysis unit
  • Two sessions per day
  • Operating Monday to Saturday

This role offers the opportunity to work in a specialised setting delivering high-quality dialysis care to the Port Pirie and Mid North community.

Emergency Department – Registered Nurses

Port Pirie Emergency Department is a fast-paced service managing a high volume of adult and paediatric presentations across a wide range of acuity levels.

Key features include:

  • Up-transfer facility for multiple YNLHN sites
  • Code Stroke Thrombolysis Centre
  • 24/7 access to CT and radiology
  • Strong medical and senior nursing support

Nurse-Led Ambulatory Service (NLAS) – Registered Nurses

This innovative, nurse-led program delivers a range of clinical services focused on wellbeing and hospital avoidance.

The NLAS team works closely with:

  • The Emergency Department
  • General Practitioners
  • Specialists and tertiary services, including the RAH Burns Unit

This role supports delivering optimal care locally while maintaining strong referral pathways.

Peri-operative Services – Registered and Enrolled Nurses

Port Pirie Hospital operates two operating theatres, providing services five days per week with an on-call service to support after-hours care.

Chemotherapy Unit – Registered Nurses

The PPRHS Chemotherapy Unit:

  • 4 treatment chairs
  • Co-located within the Peri-operative Suite
  • Delivers medium-complexity chemotherapy five days per week
  • Supported by a dedicated Cancer Service Coordinator
