About the role

Port Augusta sits at the top of the Spencer Gulf and is the gateway to the arid lands in northern South Australia. In your backyard you’ll have Art Galleries, Museums, Historical train rides and a Botanic Gardens plus opportunities for outdoor coastal activities such as fishing, kayaking or sailing. You’ll be connected to weekend destinations such as Ikara-Flinders and Mount Remarkable National Parks with countless camping and hiking opportunities. There is also plenty of sporting and community clubs available to get involved with. 

As the Technical Officer, you’ll play an important role in supporting the delivery of a high-quality, multi-disciplined pathology service within a regional laboratory setting. Working alongside a dedicated and skilled team, you’ll contribute to services that make a meaningful difference to patient care and clinical outcomes across the community.

In this role, you’ll perform a range of technical duties that draw on your expertise, experience and practical skills, applying standardised practices and procedures with care and accuracy. You may work independently or as part of a team, using your knowledge to support daily operations and participate in technical project work that builds capability and strengthens service delivery. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, continuous learning and being part of a collaborative laboratory environment.

About You

You are a motivated and detail-focused technical professional with a strong interest in working in a laboratory environment. You bring a positive attitude, excellent communication skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality work while supporting a collaborative team.

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a relevant laboratory or scientific field, with a solid understanding of laboratory principles and practices
• Experience is preferred but not essential 
• Proven ability to work independently and follow instructions, while effectively managing competing workloads to meet deadlines
• Strong customer service focus, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle confidential information professionally
• Practical laboratory experience, confident use of computer software, good numeracy and a proactive approach to problem solving
