Whyalla Hospital

Whyalla Hospital and Health Services is a large regional hospital comprising of 75 beds including flex beds and a designated High Dependency Unit. The hospital provides a wide range of services, including emergency, medical and surgical, maternity, rehabilitation, mental health, and outpatients. Whyalla Hospital’s Cancer Resource Centre is one of the largest in regional South Australia. It includes six chemotherapy chairs, outpatient care and counselling services, reducing the need to travel outside of the region for care. It is also, one of three stroke services in regional SA, providing specialised treatment for suitable stroke patients 24/7, supported by metropolitan stroke units. Our staff work in close partnership with community health services and Aboriginal health providers, to ensure that optimum care is delivered to all areas of the community. Living and Working in the Flinders and Upper North Region - Whyalla

 

About the Role:

As the Senior Facilities Officer, you will be responsible for undertaking maintenance work that does not require a trade licence but demands a high level of knowledge, experience, and technical understanding within the Whyalla Hospital and Health Service. Working under limited direction, you will coordinate, monitor, and report on Minor Works projects and modifications, liaising with external professional disciplines such as consultants, architects, structural engineers, and state and local government departments in relation to design, modifications, and inspections. You will manage auditing and compliance requirements for maintenance schedules, ensuring documentation aligns with relevant State Government regulations, codes, and SA Health guidelines, including the Australian Health Facility Guidelines, South Australian Building Codes, and Work Health and Safety legislation.

The role includes providing expert advice and recommendations to senior management on repair and replacement of equipment and assets, supervising trade assistants, liaising with contractors and suppliers, and managing the procurement of materials, parts, and equipment, including evaluating and recommending alternative options.

 

About You:

  • Experience in the management of building services and maintenance of buildings and plant.
  • Experience in working within a Health Care Facility.
  • Experience in supervising staff.
  • Experience in evaluation, selection and purchase of plant and equipment, experience in reading and working to technical drawings.

Immunisation Risk for this position is - Category B (indirect contact with blood or body substances)
