Overview:

The purpose of the Immunisation Nurse Educator is to provide expert advice and coordinate, implement and evaluate education and training programs and sessions relating to Immunisation services in South Australia.

Employees classified at this level use their clinical knowledge and experience to provide a corporate support service to nursing/midwifery practice, which may include but not be limited to areas such as the provision of a range of education, training, learning experiences and materials.

Employees classified at this level accept accountability for the outcomes of nursing/midwifery education practices, for addressing inconsistencies between practice and policy; and for contributing to a safe and positive work culture in the interest of patient/client outcomes.

Various practice models may be used to enact this role, including but not limited to:

  • Providing education and training support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners (ATSIHPs) in partnership with the Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia (AHCSA)
  • Providing on-site support to ATSIHPs in rural and regional Aboriginal Health Services across South Australia
  • Providing training and support to a Senior Aboriginal Health Practitioner employed by AHCSA
  • Providing education support in an immunisation education portfolio;
  • Coordination and leadership of projects, programs and/or research to achieve improved educational outcomes and/or service delivery for ATSHIPs and increase vaccination rates in Aboriginal communities.

Immunisation Risk for this position is Category C (minimal patient contact)

SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
