We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Occupational Therapist to join our GEM team!

The Geriatric Evaluation Management (GEM) Unit provides hospital based specialist geriatric rehabilitation services. This can include the comprehensive and responsive assessment and care planning in consultation with the older person , their family, carers and current community services involved in their care.

About the role: 

Working as a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will report to the Allied Health Manager GEM and the Director, Occupational Therapy and be responsible for the coordination and provision of comprehensive Occupational Therapy services to patients in the GEM unit. In this role, some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing specialist consultation for patients with a diagnosis of dementia and cognitive impairment
  • Taking a leadership role in all aspects of Occupational Therapy team function, and promote and support the inter-disciplinary approach in the unit
  • Working collaboratively as part of the GEM Leadership team within a fast paced and dynamic health environment. 

About you:

  • Broad experience and clinical expertise in the provision of clinical Occupational Therapy services to patients with complex needs and the older person with cognitive impairment or a diagnosis of dementia - experience also in the management of issues associated with cognitive impairment and/or changed behaviours and behavioural support planning
  • High levels of responsibility and organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines, delegate appropriately.  This includes the ability to supervise students, allied health assistants and junior staff.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical management and leadership within a discrete unit, including program evaluation and service development
  • Ability to manage and adapt to change in a positive manner
