Join SA Health as an RN3 Nurse Consultant in our Perinatal Mental Health Liaison Service at Flinders Medical Centre, playing a key role in supporting mental health and emotional wellbeing of women birthing at FMC.

This part-time contract position until May 2026 (with potential for extension) offers the opportunity to provide expert clinical leadership in perinatal mental health-informed care, while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring staff to deliver compassionate, family-centred care. About the role

Reporting to the Nursing Director, this role provides specialist nursing consultation and clinical expertise across mental health perinatal care with a strong focus on psychosocial complexity, risk, and wellbeing. You will lead quality improvement initiatives, support workforce capability, and promote safe, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practice across the service.

Duties will include:

  • Providing direct, expert clinical nursing/midwifery care, including mental health-informed assessment, and therapeutic interventions for women, with complex perinatal needs,
  • Offering specialist nursing/midwifery assessment and consultation to local clinical teams to support integrated, holistic care that addresses both physical and psychological wellbeing within a risk management framework,
  • Using information systems to inform clinical decision-making, support quality improvement, and ensure safe, high-quality care for vulnerable families,
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and processes that support perinatal mental health, family safety, and continuity of care,
  • Managing resources responsibly to support sustainable, high-quality service delivery,
  • Leading and coordinating quality improvement initiatives aligned with corporate risk management and professional practice frameworks,
  • Assessing psychosocial and clinical risks, and implementing strategies to reduce harm and promote safety,
  • Contributing specialist expertise to research, evaluation, and service development activities to strengthen perinatal mental health outcomes and nursing/midwifery practice

About you:

  • Registered Nurse with current registration and practising certificate with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and enrolled in, or holding, a recognised qualification in Mental Health practice,
  • Demonstrated competence in mental health nursing practice in accordance with relevant professional standards,
  • Minimum of three years’ post-registration experience (full-time equivalent) as a Registered Nurse/Midwife, with relevant mental health experience,
  • Proven ability to deliver and support mental health-specific education, capability building, and clinical consultation within complex care environments,
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership skills, with experience leading, influencing, and supporting multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, person-centred mental health care,
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage therapeutically, work autonomously, and apply innovative, recovery-oriented approaches,
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design, implement, and evaluate effective mental health interventions and service improvements,
  • Well-developed digital literacy, with the ability to use clinical information systems and relevant software to support decision-making and quality care delivery
