About the role

The Nurse Consultant provides specialist mental health nursing assessment, risk management and intervention for children and adolescents, ensuring quality, patient centred care. The Nurse Consultant delivers expert guidance, leads service improvement and supports safe, coordinated pathways for complex mental health needs.

Key duties of the role

• Provide expert knowledge and interventions in child and adolescent mental health nursing through the application of mental health nursing assessment and risk assessment.
• Assess, plan, and implement care and appropriate service delivery options.
• Maintain productive working relationships and manage conflict resolution.
• Contribute mental health expertise to practice through clinical protocol and standards development.
• Develop internal and external partnerships through a multidisciplinary approach.

Skills and Experience

• Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate. Must be enrolled in an approved Mental Health Course or hold a qualification in mental health practice.
• Registered Nurses with at least 3 years post registration experience.
• Demonstrated competence in delivering proficient and comprehensive mental health nursing.
• Knowledge of child and adolescent mental health nursing health care issues and perinatal assessment.
• Demonstrated mental health assessment skills.
