About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced pharmacist to work as a Senior Pharmacist within the CALHN Pharmacy Department Mental Health team.  The Senior Pharmacist - Mental Health may rotate across all CALHN sites as a member of the Mental Health team, supported by the Mental Health Team Leader and Deputy Director.

As the Senior Pharmacist, you will be responsible for the organisation, management and operation of your designated pharmacy area, delivering a comprehensive, high-level range of clinical and operational pharmacy services across the hospital. You will exercise independent and autonomous judgement in the provision of expert medicines information and therapeutic advice to patients, medical officers, nursing staff and other health professionals, ensuring practice aligns with hospital and divisional policies, professional standards and contemporary pharmacy guidelines.

In this leadership role, you will contribute directly to optimising patient outcomes through the promotion of safe, effective and cost-efficient use of medicines. By implementing strategies that support quality use of pharmaceuticals and fostering strong multidisciplinary collaboration, you will play a key role in enhancing clinical decision-making, strengthening governance and driving excellence in patient-centred care.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong clinical expertise, leadership capability and a commitment to delivering high-quality pharmacy services within a complex hospital environment. You will bring the following essential qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Qualifications and Registration: Bachelor of Pharmacy (or equivalent) and registered, or eligible for registration, with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.

  • Clinical Expertise and Knowledge: Extensive experience in hospital pharmacy practice, with demonstrated professional and technical competence and comprehensive knowledge of relevant codes of practice and standards.

  • Leadership and Service Improvement: Proven leadership, supervisory or management experience, with the ability to investigate, implement and develop strategies to improve service delivery, supervise and educate staff, and provide direction within a multidisciplinary health care team.

  • Communication, Analysis and Organisation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong public relations capability, well-developed research, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
