About the Role
In this rewarding and dynamic role, you will provide nursing services within a correctional setting, building on your experience and/or further study to develop from a competent to a proficient practitioner. You will accept accountability for your own professional practice, the activities delegated to others, and the guidance and development of less experienced staff. Working in a unique healthcare environment, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, consistent and patient-centred care to a complex and diverse population.
Supporting the Nursing Unit Manager, you will contribute to the leadership and coordination of nursing services within the unit. You will promote continuity and consistency of care in collaboration with other Associate Nurse Unit Managers and the Nurse Unit Manager, assist with implementing practice changes, and support key service management responsibilities. This includes contributing to performance management processes, recruitment, staffing, leave management, rostering, work allocation, attendance management, and financial and supply planning and monitoring. Your leadership, professionalism and commitment to quality improvement will directly influence the standard of care delivered within the service.
About You
You are a confident and capable nursing professional who combines strong clinical expertise with emerging leadership skills and a genuine commitment to delivering high-quality care within a complex healthcare environment.

Qualified and professionally registered – Registered or eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and eligible to hold a current practising certificate. Registered Nurse/Midwife with at least three years post-registration experience or currently classified as a Clinical Nurse/Midwife, demonstrating competence in your relevant area of practice.

Strong communicator and team contributor – Well-developed communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and supervise student nurses, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses.

Organised, adaptable and solutions-focused – Proven ability to prioritise workload, meet set timelines and work with minimal supervision. Creative, innovative and flexible in responding to challenges within the healthcare setting.

Knowledgeable and quality-driven practitioner – Sound understanding of relevant legislation, industrial agreements, professional standards, codes of ethics and competency standards, alongside knowledge of Quality Improvement Systems and contemporary nursing and healthcare issues.
