About the role

Deliver expert forensic and trauma-informed nursing care within a specialist sexual assault service. Provide medico-legal assessment, comprehensive care coordination, and after-hours support while contributing to education, quality improvement, and safe, consumer-focused outcomes in a multidisciplinary environment.

Key duties of the role

  • Providing proficient clinical nursing care and individual case management to consumers who present to Yarrow Place Rape and Sexual Assault Service
  • Providing forensic documentation and reports for use within the legal system, including sexual assault forensic medical examination findings and opinions regarding injury causation when requested by the courts. 
  • Participating in clinical teaching, overseeing learning experience, and goal setting for new staff and staff with less experience
  • Responsible for ensuring consumers that access the service during their afterhours shift will be seen in a timely manner

Skills and Experience

  • Registered nurse with at least 3 years post registration experience
  • Experience with assessment in sexual health and anogenital examinations
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate
  • High level skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation.
  • High level skills when relating to the provision of clinical support and care for people in crisis, including the use of basic counselling skills.
