About the role

The Senior Social Worker leads development of culturally responsive, trauma-informed psychosocial supports for Aboriginal families in Ngangkita Ngartu. The Senior Social Worker drives service improvements, manages stakeholder partnerships, supports training, coordinates referrals, and advises on complex psychosocial and child protection cases.

Key duties of the role

  • Undertake a leadership role as a supervisor and consultant.
  • Contribute to the development and sustainability of the clinical skills of Aboriginal Maternity Infant Care (AMIC) workers.
  • Develop the professional skills and competencies of others by contributing to or facilitating education and training activities and acting as a mentor.
  • Provide high quality evidence-based assessment and interventions for individual, group and families.
  • Provide care plans in partnership with Aboriginal members of Ngangkita Ngartu to ensure that care is culturally safe and appropriate.

Skills and Experience

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification, which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
  • Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated experience applying culturally safe and trauma-informed frameworks to psychosocial assessment and intervention with complex families.
  • Awareness of the major social and health issues facing Aboriginal mothers and families.
  • Knowledge of the impact of the social determinants of health on the health and economic outcomes of Aboriginal people.
