About the role

The Advanced Academic Nurse Researcher and Advanced Academic Midwife Researcher are accountable to the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Workforce and Professional Practice for building a strategic research culture and capability framework for the nursing and midwifery workforce by: 

  • Building and embedding a nursing and midwifery research culture across WCHN and sustain momentum and achieve initiatives through small pilots.
  • Expanding research and education and mentorship by providing accessible programs to nurses and midwives across all divisions of WCHN.
  • Strengthening networks, partnerships and collaboration and inclusive research capacity at acute and community sites.
  • Advancing equity, access and consumer participation in research by facilitating collaborative research initiatives that addressing system priorities and consumer needs.
  • Ensuring translation of evidence to care delivery for continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Implementing a Research Mentorship program through Clinical Nurse/Midwife portfolio.

Key duties of the role

  • Lead competency improvement and analysis, measurement and evaluation of education, and professional development.
  • Support nurses and midwives working clinically to investigate practice issues.
  • Assist nurses and midwives to implement results of research and innovate practice.
  • Change local processes and practices in accordance with emerging service needs.
  • Promote inclusive research leadership by connecting underrepresented clinicians to research opportunities and mentorship.

Skills and Experience

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate; OR
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • Registered Nurse/Midwife with at least 3 years post registration experience.
  • Emerging profile through research outputs as evidenced by publication in peer – reviewed journals or conference presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience translating research findings into clinical practice.
