About the role

The Cystic Fibrosis service at the Royal Adelaide is part of the SAHealth Cystic Fibrosis service across Children's health service and Adult health service, providing inpatient support, outpatient Multi Disciplinary Team clinics and  manages its own Hospital in  the Home (HITH) program. It is a dynamic and vital service providing nursing and medical support to a specific population of Chronic health patients. The Cystic Fibrosis Clinical/ Registered Nurse supports and enables patient involvement in their treatment plans and is an integral component of the Heart & Lung nursing workforce. The CALHN Heart & Lung program – Respiratory Service, provides nursing services within current nursing models of care focussing on patient centred care.

RN- 1 The Registered Nurse level 1 develops from a novice practitioner to a proficient level of professional practice. They consolidate knowledge and skills and develop in capability through continuous professional development and experience. The Cystic Fibrosis Registered Nurse accepts accountability for their own standards of nursing care and works collaboratively with the Cystic Fibrosis Multidisciplinary team to deliver care.

RN-2  The Clinical Nurse (CN) role at this level is to assist with the provision of professional high quality patients/clients care within South Australian Cystic Fibrosis Service Program, CAHLN. This CN accepts accountability for their own practice standards, activities delegated to others and the guidance and development of less experienced staff. The CN continues to be predominantly clinical in nature; however employees are assigned appropriate portfolios. The allocation of portfolio responsibilities should be negotiated with each employee and be consistent with the career development plan for the employee as determined by their performance review/development plan.

The RN/ CN assists in the development and maintenance of long term therapeutic alliances with the clients who have Cystic Fibrosis and their carers, and contributes to the achievement of nursing best practice, facilitating the development and application of relevant nursing research. They also contribute to the achievement of professional expertise through the maintenance of ongoing personal professional development/continuing education.
