About the role

The Head of Unit leads specialised respiratory physiotherapy services, managing a clinical caseload while providing expert care for acute and chronic respiratory and neuromuscular conditions. The Head of Unit oversees service delivery, staff supervision, workload coordination, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure safe, efficient, high‑quality care.

Key duties of the role

  • Act as a clinical expert of physiotherapy management in the fields of chronic and acute respiratory conditions, neuromuscular conditions, and functional neurological disorder.
  • Provide high quality assessment, management, and advice in physiotherapy care of patients.
  • Provide clinical leadership, professional supervision, and support to physiotherapists within the team.
  • Allocate daily workloads, coordinate staffing across a seven-day service and ensure safe cover and handover processes.

Skills and Experience

  • Appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia
  • Extensive experience in physiotherapy management in paediatric respiratory conditions.
  • High level knowledge of paediatric respiratory conditions and the Physiotherapy management of these conditions including chronic and acute respiratory conditions, neuromuscular conditions and functional neurological disorder.
  • Experience in the coordination of workloads for a team.
  • Ability to lead a team and foster good working relationships.
