About the role

Registered Nurse:

The Registered Nurse assesses individual patient needs and plans, implements, and coordinates appropriate service delivery. The Registered Nurse provides person-centred care while coordinating services with other disciplines or agencies.

Clinical Nurse:

The Clinical Nurse provides proficient, person-centred, clinical care and individual case management to patients. The Clinical Nurse monitors care plans to ensure outcomes are achieved while overseeing the provision of nursing care within the unit.

Key duties of the role

Registered Nurse:

  • Assess individual client needs and plan, implement and coordinate appropriate service delivery.
  • Provide direct person-centred nursing care with increasing autonomy over time.
  • Plan and coordinate services with other disciplines or agencies.
  • Provide team leader role as required on a day-to-day basis.
  • Provide health promotion and education.

Clinical Nurse:

  • Provide proficient, person centred, clinical nursing care and individual case management.
  • Monitoring patient care plans to ensure appropriate care outcomes are achieved.
  • Assess clients, select and implement different therapeutic interventions and support programs, and evaluate progress.
  • Act to resolve local and/or immediate care or service delivery problems.
  • Participate in clinical teaching, overseeing learning experience, and goal setting for students, new staff, and staff with less experience.

Skills and Experience

Registered Nurse:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate, OR
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse/Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate, OR
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of the Registered General Nurse/ Midwife within a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Clinical Nurse:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate, OR
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse and Midwife by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • Registered Nurse with at least 3 years, full time equivalent, post registration experience.
  • Experience in the supervision of student nurses, enrolled nurses and less experienced registered nurses.
  • Effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
