About the role

Provides strategic communications leadership for WCHN, managing complex, sensitive and high-risk communications while advising executives and senior leaders. Leads network-wide communications planning, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement to protect reputation and support organisational priorities and public profile.

Key duties of the role

  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic communications plans that align with WCHN’s strategies.
  • Provide functional leadership, mentoring, and professional guidance across the Media and Communications team, promoting consistent quality and best-practice standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement of communications frameworks, templates, processes and governance to strengthen effectiveness, consistency and risk management.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with WCHN Executive staff, Department and Local Health Network communications teams.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic communications campaigns, with an understanding of governance and risk in public sector environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working in communications and/or the media industry or a related field, including experience in developing and implementing innovative and effective communication strategies.
  • Demonstrated senior strategic communications experience in a complex, high-profile organisation.
  • Strong relationship management and engagement skills, including the ability to work effectively with clinicians, executives, government and community partners.
