Join SA Health at Flinders Medical Centre and become the communication lifeline for our Emergency Department, where every call and conversation directly impacts patient care. This part-time contract position offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment, working rotating shifts across 24 hours until March 2027. About the role: 

Reporting to the ED Clerical Manager, some of your duties for the role will include:

  • Liaising with relatives, ambulance officers, police in relation to patient presentation and admittance and deal with their needs in a timely manner
  • Updating roster boards and admitting Consultant lists by communicating with hospital switchboard
  • Management of equipment tracking and ordering
  • Initiating telephone calls and paging as directed by clinical staff
  • Acting as designated contact person for all visiting medical and surgical teams to the Emergency Department
  • Processing patient admissions to the wards and EECU according to procedures

About you:

  • Must be available for a role that is a rotating roster and shifts are over a 24 hour period including nightshift, afternoon shifts and day shifts, as well as required to work weekends and public holidays
  • Ability to deal with members of the public and respond empathetically to a range of difficult needs and priorities
  • Experience working in an area of public contact
  • General administration and clerical experience
  • Demonstrated high standard of written and oral communication skills, including proficient use of a computer and telephone systems
