As the after hours Nurse Consultant you will lead after-hours clinical operations by providing expert guidance to nursing staff, managing patient flow and staffing allocation and acting as the key decision-making authority for clinical escalations. This position combines clinical expertise with operational oversight to maintain patient safety and care standards during critical after-hours periods.

About the role:  

  • Provide expert clinical nursing care and consultation, attending all emergency code calls and delivering direct patient care with advanced therapeutic interventions
  • Lead after-hours clinical decision making by integrating evidence-based practice with expert knowledge to guide nursing teams and optimise patient outcomes
  • Manage operational systems including staff allocation, resource coordination, risk management, and quality improvement processes during after-hours periods
  • Deliver clinical education and mentorship to hospital staff, promoting best practice implementation and enhancing skills through both planned and immediate teaching opportunities
  • Serve as professional leader and consultant, providing expert advice on clinical practice standards while maintaining effective communication systems and emergency response capabilities

About you:  

  • Proven leadership and management experience with strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills in healthcare settings
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads, lead change management initiatives, and foster staff development in fast-paced environments
  • Understanding of person-centred care principles, consumer engagement frameworks, and contemporary nursing practice standards
  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with minimum three years post-registration experience and demonstrated competence in nursing practice
