About the role

The After-Hours Crisis Response/Triage Worker delivers crisis advocacy and intervention for people aged 16 years or older, of all genders, after sexual assault. The position works with forensic staff, coordinates with Yarrow Place teams and partner agencies, facilitates referrals, and provides face-to-face and phone advocacy and crisis intervention to individuals who have experience recent sexual assault.

Key duties of the role

  • Provide an immediate crisis advocacy service.
  • Ensure effective assessment of needs to facilitate an appropriate and comprehensive response for people who have experienced a recent sexual assault.
  • Provide timely and appropriate crisis intervention.
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals/families/groups in crisis following a sexual assault.
  • Ensure statutory and legal options are satisfied, including court attendance, as required.

Skills and Experience

  • Qualification of a Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (overseas qualifications must supply the AASW Overseas Assessment number), a demonstrated understanding of the current AASW Practice Standards as they relate to the position and a commitment to maintaining a professional skill and knowledge base.
  • Demonstrated experience working in crisis and trauma situations.
  • Knowledge of feminist and human rights frameworks for understanding and responding to sexual violence and abuse.
  • Knowledge of trauma counselling approaches and trauma informed care principles.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide crisis counselling and support to people who have experienced a recent rape or sexual assault.
