Be Part of Something Special - Infant Nutrition Support Worker

Join our neonatal research team as an Infant Nutrition Support Worker and play a crucial role in the groundbreaking GIFT trial at Flinders Medical Centre. You will coordinate daily milk preparation operations, ensuring premature babies receive optimal nutrition while maintaining the integrity of this important research. This casual position offers the opportunity to combine clinical precision with meaningful research that directly impacts the health outcomes of South Australia's most vulnerable patients.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, this role is responsible for assisting with the implementation of the GIFT trial and related human milk research projects in the Neonatal Unit.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Coordinate daily operations of GIFT trial milk related tasks,
  • Order and receive preterm donor human milk from Lifeblood,
  • Receive and check individual infant milk order forms for accuracy,
  • Prepare milk orders as per individual forms,
  • Monitor compliance with all aspects of Neonatal Unit milk room procedures and policies,
  • Complete other milk related tasks for the GIFT trial including wrapping syringes and bottles,
  • Contribute to development and implementation of policies regarding preterm donor human milk management,
  • Work with minimal supervision to maintain integrity and smooth running of the GIFT trial

About you:

  • Certificate IV, Diploma or higher in a relevant field of study,
  • Student who has completed the first year of Nutrition/Dietetics/Nursing undergraduate degree,
  • Relevant training with a recognised training provider (e.g. food safety training, infection control training.)
  • Excellent attitude,
  • Attention to detail,
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills,
  • Relevant experience in a food service/ward environment in a healthcare setting,
  • Experience in managing Food Safety compliance records and documentation relevant to the role,
  • Experience with computer systems and electronic record management,
  • Work across a seven-day roster including weekends and public holidays
