About the role

The Nurse Unit Manager – Mallee Ward leads and coordinates mental health care delivery, ensuring quality outcomes and efficient patient flow. The Nurse Unit Manager provides clinical leadership, fosters team performance, and drives continuous improvement in mental health nursing practice.

Key duties of the role

  • Integrate contemporary mental health information and evidence with personal experience to support decision making and objective analysis.
  • Manage activities that contribute to improvements and optimise mental health nursing care.
  • Provide leadership and coordination of patient care delivery to achieve continuity and quality of patient care and outcomes.
  • In conjunction with the Mallee Ward Nurse Consultant, ensure mechanisms are in place to support ongoing staff education.
  • Undertake and oversee local resource management including recruitment, staffing, leave management, and work allocation.

Skills and Experience

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate, and enrolled in an approved Mental Health course or holds a qualification in mental health practice.
  • Registered Nurse with at least 3 years post registration experience.
  • Competence in child and adolescent mental health nursing clinical practice.
  • Ability to assess and provide complex child and adolescent mental health care.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
