About the role

The Senior Pharmacist – Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) works within a pharmacy team to provide clinical leadership and specialist expertise to optimise antimicrobial use and support safe, evidence-based prescribing across the organisation. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the role drives stewardship initiatives to improve patient outcomes, reduce antimicrobial resistance, and ensure compliance with national standards and accreditation requirements.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide expert clinical advice on antimicrobial therapy and stewardship principles
  • Deliver clinical pharmacy services to Infectious Diseases inpatients
  • Participate in and contribute to AMS ward rounds
  • Undertake AMS activities including prospective audit, review, and feedback to prescribers
  • Develop, implement, and review antimicrobial guidelines
  • Support clinical staff with therapeutic drug monitoring
  • Collaborate with medical, nursing, pharmacy, and infection prevention teams to optimise antimicrobial use
  • Monitor and analyse antimicrobial utilisation and resistance data to inform practice improvement
  • Lead and deliver education initiatives and training aligned with AMS priorities and clinical practice
  • Contribute to antimicrobial formulary management and governance processes
  • Lead and support AMS-related quality improvement, research, and service development initiatives
  • Participate in multidisciplinary AMS committee

Lead a designated pharmacy area and deliver a comprehensive, high level clinical pharmacy service. Provide expert medicines information and therapeutic advice while supporting safe, effective and cost conscious use of medicines across the hospital.

Working closely with pharmacists, technicians and multidisciplinary teams, you will support patient care and service delivery. You will liaise with clinicians and community providers, applying independent judgement to optimise outcomes and maintain high standards of pharmacy practice.

About You

You’re an experienced hospital pharmacist ready to lead service delivery and support safe, high quality patient care. You bring strong clinical knowledge, leadership capability and excellent communication skills.

• Bachelor of Pharmacy and eligible for Board registration

• Experience in hospital pharmacy and service leadership

• Communicate well and work across multidisciplinary teams

• Analyse data and drive service improve initiatives
