About the role: 

Reporting to the Head of Unit, this role is responsible for providing management, leadership and coordination of the multidisciplinary out of hospital Diabetes services including local resource management as to achieve continuity and quality of patient care and outcomes.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Ensure that service provision and the activities of the Division / Unit / Ward / Service are person and family centred and professionally and effectively conducted by contributing to the development of an integrated team approach and culture which is highly responsive to the needs of our consumers,
  • Ensure the effective management of human, financial and physical assets through appropriate planning and allocation of resources to achieve agreed Division / Unit / Ward / Service and strategic plans,
  • Integrate contemporary information and evidence with personal experience to support the decision making, innovative thinking and objective analysis that are expected at this level. e.g. Clinical knowledge underpins and informs their ability to support and lead clinical services and management activities that contribute to improve and optimise nursing/midwifery care,
  • Initiate and interpret diagnostic pathology and/or radiology,
  • Provide the pivotal leadership and co-ordination of patient care delivery in the Diabetes pathway to achieve continuity and quality of patient care and outcomes and efficient patient flow

About you:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate,
  • Effective leadership skills including highly developed skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills,
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team,
  • Ability to review and improve models of care to be person and family centred,
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a workplace environment that develops staff potential,
  • Proven ability for flexibility, innovation and creativity within the whole of service setting,
  • Registered Nurse with at least 3 years post registration experience,
  • Demonstrated advanced level of competence in the area of diabetes education and clinical management in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice,
  • Experience in developing policies and procedures in the relevant area of clinical practice,
  • Experience in management and leadership roles
