Vitreoretinal Fellowship - Flinders Medical Centre (2027)

Flinders Medical Centre is offering a Vitreoretinal Fellowship commencing in early 2027, based within the Ophthalmology Department at South Australia's premier teaching hospital. This fellowship provides advanced subspecialty training in medical and surgical retina under the direct supervision of the vitreoretinal consultant team, with structured exposure to a high-volume and complex case mix drawn from a network serving over 400,000 patients annually.


The successful applicant will develop their surgical and clinical expertise across the breadth of vitreoretinal practice while contributing to inpatient, outpatient and operative services at the CSC Flinders Eye Centre. The role suits a motivated ophthalmologist who has completed the major part of their RANZCO training (or equivalent) and is seeking a year of focused subspecialty experience in a collegiate, academically active department with strong links to Flinders University and an established culture of teaching and research.

About the role: 

  • The Vitreoretinal Fellow will be professionally responsible to the Head of Department, and other staff with delegated supervisory positions. The position requires an ability and willingness to work closely with all medical, nursing and allied health staff and including CSC Flinders Eye Centre
  • Conducting inpatient, outpatient and/or procedural consultations of patients including assessing, analysing, diagnosing, managing, treating, educating and supporting patients presenting to them
  • Ensuring the maintenance of comprehensive clinical records which document significant patient management decisions
  • Contributing to the development of an integrated team approach and culture which is highly responsive to the needs of our consumers
  • Monitoring and reviewing the ongoing management and treatment of patients assigned to their care

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent and registerable as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Have completed 4 years of the RANZCO accredited training or equivalent
  • Ability to participate in continuing medical education activities
  • Proven experience in delivering high quality and safe care consistent with the National Safety and Quality Health Care Service Standards.
