Join our Oncology Team as an Advanced Trainee Medical Oncology Fellow! 

The Department of Medical Oncology at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) provides a comprehensive specialist service for patients with cancer. This Advanced Trainee Medical Oncology Fellowship at Flinders Medical Centre represents an outstanding opportunity to develop specialist expertise in cancer care and clinical trials within SA Health's premier oncology program. Running until January 2028, this full-time position combines comprehensive clinical trial training with research opportunities, mentorship from leading oncologists, and exposure to the latest cancer treatment modalities.

About the role: 

Medical Oncology is committed to the achievement of best practice in the design and delivery of services to its patients. This involves the pursuit of quality improvement, the integration of research to offer opportunities to our patients and innovation in every aspect of its operation.

Duties for the role will include:

  • This is a third year (or first year post advanced training) opportunity consolidate clinical training and develop strong research skills into clinical practice. 
  • Supporting clinical improvement activities with the aim of achieving safe, evidence based best practice clinical services. This will involve evaluation of clinical processes and service outcomes, including patient safety, identifying possible areas for improvement and implementing the required changes.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary cancer care in collaboration with other units within cancer services, and units treating cancer within other functional units in the hospital,
  • Investigating and addressing patient complaints in a positive, constructive manner,
  • Participating in relevant standing or ad hoc committees associated with the provision of clinical services.

As per the SMOEA 2022, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month allocation as Advanced Trainee will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent,
  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia,
  • Two years post graduate training,
  • Demonstrated skills in communication with colleagues and patients
