Join SA Health at Flinders Medical Centre as an Evening and Night Shifts Registrar, providing essential clinical leadership across our premier tertiary hospital during critical after-hours periods. As a major tertiary referral centre, Flinders Medical Centre provides exposure to the full spectrum of medical conditions. You will manage complex cases, participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, and work alongside consultants who are leaders in their fields.

About the role: 

  • The Registrar/Senior Registrar/Senior Medical Practitioner (roles defined depending on your prior experience) works across all inpatient specialities, with a primary focus on medical specialties, but also provides medical input for surgical, mental health, and other patients as required.
  • Provide senior medical leadership during evening and night shifts, within the governance of General Medicine, across medical, surgical, mental health and other inpatient services.
  • Provide senior medical input for deteriorating patients, including support for MET calls in collaboration with ICU.
  • Ensuring continuity of care by escalating significant clinical or systems issues to the responsible consultant team at the earliest appropriate opportunity.
  • Participating in clinical governance activities, including audit, peer review, and incident management, with a focus on after-hours learnings.
  • Providing real-time supervision, guidance, and decision support to interns, RMOs, and registrars.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration
  • Broad generalist knowledge with the ability to assess, prioritise, and manage acute patients across specialties. High-level problem-solving and decision-making skills, including recognition and management of deteriorating patients.
  • Works effectively with limited staffing and competing priorities. Demonstrates punctuality, time management, resilience, and adaptability during evening and night shifts. Actively contributes as a collaborative team member.
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior clinician in a hospital setting, preferably in acute general medicine or a comparable and equivalent clinical experience role in a tertiary centre.
  • Experience participating in MET or rapid response teams, or managing deteriorating patients in a hospital setting, is desirable

‘As per the SMOEA 2022, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month allocation as Advanced Trainee will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.’
