About the role

 The ‘Working with Wisdom’ (WwW) mentoring and coaching model takes advantage of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that experienced nurses have developed during their career. The model enables experienced nurses and emerging leaders to support, mentor, and educate the incoming generation of TPPP and early career nurses, allowing the accumulated knowledge, skills, and attributes of the experienced nurse to be transferred to the TPPP and early career nurses.

The WwW Clinical Nurse will provide the point of clinical care support to early career nurses with face to face, on ground, and virtual support, including development of an agreed plan for communication and supervision to promote reflective practice and problem solving, and evidence-based capability development through experiential learning.  The Clinical Nurse provides support to the Nurse Educators, Nurse Unit Managers, and Nurse Managers in the provision of a clinical support service to TPPPs and early career nurses.

Key duties of the role

  • Support and assist staff in the provision of proficient, person centred, clinical nursing care and/or individual case management to patients.
  • Support staff in patient/client care planning, monitoring and healthcare delivery to ensure appropriate care outcomes are achieved.
  • Oversee the provision of TPPP and early career nursing care, and support nursing staff in healthcare delivery as part of the dedicated “Working with Wisdom” mentoring and coaching model.
  • Plan and coordinate services including those from other disciplines to support TPPP and early career nursing development.
  • Participate in point of clinical care clinical teaching, overseeing learning experience, and goal setting for TPPP and early career nursing.

Skills and Experience

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • Registered Nurse with at least 3 years, full time equivalent, post registration experience.
  • Experience in the leadership and direction of student nurses, enrolled TPPPs and early career nurses and midwives.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated supportive, constructive, and respectful approach to support of the student, junior and new staff member.
