As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 6 months allocation as the Fellow Paediatric Emergency POCUS will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.

About the role

 The Paediatric Emergency Fellow, POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound Special Skills) position provides a distinct opportunity for an ACEM/RACP PEM Trainee to gain credentialling and expertise in Paediatric Emergency ultrasound, encompassing both technical proficiency and administrative acumen. The Fellow will complete scanning sessions, teach junior doctors, an audit or research project on paediatric ultrasound, and credentialling in 5-6 POCUS applications.

Key duties of the role

  • Assess and manage new emergency patients in consultation with the supervising Consultant.
  • Participate in scanning sessions in the Paediatric Emergency Department.
  • Complete credentialing in 5-6 POCUS applications within 6 months.
  • Ensure patients and their families can exercise their rights and responsibilities.
  • Assess and manage acute paediatric or neonatal emergencies.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent.
  • Advanced Paediatric Trainee with RACP and/or ACEM training Stage 3 or 4.
  • Clinical experience and competence in the practice of paediatric emergency medicine.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills (both clinical and individual).
