About the role

The Paediatric Advanced Trainee Rheumatology contributes to the provision of high standard paediatric clinical services to South Australia. The Advanced Trainee participates in outpatient clinics which includes assessment and management of new patients as well as review and follow-up of inpatients admitted through the clinics under consultant supervision.

As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-months allocation to Advanced Trainee Paediatric Rheumatology will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.

Key duties of the role

• Assess and manage new patients, in consultation with the supervising Consultant.
• Contribute to all duties associated with inpatients, including assessment of new admissions, care coordination, management of the day-to-day progress of assigned patients in the ward, and discharge and follow up arrangements.
• Oversee the care provided by Junior Medical Officers.
• Ensure that patients/families are given adequate information upon which to base treatment decision and follow-up.

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent.
• Registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner.
• Satisfactorily completed RACP Basic Training requirements and progressed to Advanced Trainee.
• Ability to work as an effective team member in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Commitment to client (and parent/carer) participation in care.
