As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month allocation Advanced Trainee Respiratory will be determined in line with your training and SA Health's requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About the role

The Advanced Trainee Respiratory delivers supervised paediatric respiratory and cystic fibrosis care across inpatient, outpatient, remote, and on‑call services, while also contributing to teaching and training of medical, nursing, and scientific staff.

Key duties of the role

  • Manage, with appropriate supervision, the clinical care of in- patients admitted under the paediatric respiratory medicine service.
  • Manage, with appropriate supervision, the clinical care of Ambulatory / Outpatients admitted under the Respiratory Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis services.
  • Participate in the performance and interpretation, with appropriate supervision, of diagnostic Respiratory including OPD and In-patient studies.
  • Provide a consultative service for other unit’s inpatients with respect to the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory medicine and cystic fibrosis.
  • Participate in postgraduate and undergraduate medical education.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent
  • Registrable with general medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner.
  • Completion of RACP Basic Training Requirements [Eligible for Advanced Training toward FRACP].
  • Competency in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and General Paediatric Medicine commensurate with level of training.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary clinical, scientific and paraclinical colleagues.
