As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 6 -12-month allocation as the WCHN General Paediatric Advanced Trainee will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.

About the role

As an Advanced Trainee General Paediatric, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality inpatient and outpatient paediatric services across South Australia. The role includes emergency care, teaching, supervision of junior staff, and participation in research and quality improvement activities while progressing advanced clinical training.

Key duties of the role

  • Deliver inpatient, outpatient and emergency paediatric care across a range of clinical settings.
  • Coordinate patient management, investigations, procedures and follow-up care in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and teaching to junior trainee medical officers and students.
  • Participate in departmental education programs, professional development and specialist college training requirements.
  • Contribute to research, clinical audit, quality improvement and service development activities.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent and eligible for Medical Board of Australia registration.
  • Completion of RACP Paediatric Basic Training requirements and progression to Advanced Trainee level.
  • Demonstrated clinical, communication and problem-solving skills in paediatric medicine.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and high-pressure clinical environments.
  • Commitment to teaching, patient-centred care, continuous improvement and professional development.
