As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years.  Rotations following the initial 12-months as the Advanced Trainee Infectious Disease will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About the role

The Infectious Diseases Advanced Trainee/Fellow participates in the provision of inpatient and outpatient Infectious Diseases services within WCHN, with a view to FRACP training. The role supports diagnosis, management and consultation for patients with infectious conditions under appropriate supervision. The position also contributes to teaching, research, antimicrobial stewardship and infection control activities within the unit.

Key duties of the role

• Provide supervised inpatient and outpatient care for patients with infectious diseases, including assessment, treatment and follow-up.
• Contribute to diagnostic review and interpretation of laboratory results, including clinically significant cultures.
• Provide consultative input to other inpatient services regarding diagnosis and management of infections.
• Participate in antimicrobial stewardship, infection control initiatives and clinical audit activities.
• Contribute to teaching, research, case reviews and departmental education programs.

Skills and Experience

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) registrable with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Completion of RACP Basic Training and eligible Advanced Infectious Diseases Advanced Trainee status.
• Competency in general medicine appropriate to level of training.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to meet clinical, reporting and FRACP training requirements within required timeframes.
