Deputy Head of Unit – General and Acute Medicine (Managerial Allowance Only)
Southern Adelaide Local Health Network 

The duties and responsibilities detailed in this Duty Statement are performed over and above the clinical role of a consultant.
An employee undertaking these additional responsibilities will do so while maintaining an active clinical role and will be required to contribute to the achievement of Southern Adelaide Local Health Network’s: values of patient centeredness, teamwork, respect and professionalism; operational objectives including safety, quality, access, economic goals; and strategic objectives including leadership and direction setting required for the future of the program/service.

About the Role:

  • Provide leadership and assist with the day-to-day operations of the unit.
  • Support workforce planning, rostering, and service delivery.
  • Contribute to divisional leadership forums and strategic planning.
  • Lead and participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, research, and audit activities.
  • Assist in service planning, design, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the management of incidents, complaints, and service feedback.
  • Uphold National Safety & Quality Health Service Standards.
  • Contribute to complex clinical care planning where required.
  • Build strong partnerships to support coordinated, consumer-centred care.
  • Assist with budget planning, financial management, and resource allocation.
  • Promote staff wellbeing and ensure compliance with workforce processes


About You

  • Proven leadership experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Strong operational and workforce management capability.
  • Commitment to clinical governance and quality improvement.
  • Experience in service planning, policy development, and change management.
  • Sound clinical judgement, including managing complex or uncertain cases.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Financial awareness and experience contributing to budget management.
  • A proactive approach to staff wellbeing and team culture.
  • Strong attention to detail and accountability in administrative processes
