As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years.  Rotations following the initial 12-months allocation as WCHN Advanced Trainee/Fellow Gastroenterology will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About the role

The Advanced Trainee/Fellow in Gastroenterology contributes to the provision of high-quality paediatric clinical services across South Australia. The role provides inpatient and outpatient care, supports emergency and acute paediatric management, and contributes to clinical teaching, research and multidisciplinary care within a supportive training environment.

Key duties of the role

  • Provide inpatient and outpatient paediatric care including assessment, care coordination, discharge planning and follow-up.
  • Assess and manage acute paediatric and neonatal presentations in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Coordinate investigations, interpret results and perform routine and emergency procedures appropriate to level of training.
  • Support supervision and teaching of Junior Medical Officers, students and other trainees.
  • Participate in research, clinical audit, quality improvement and departmental education activities.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) or equivalent and eligible for Medical Board of Australia registration.
  • Completion of RACP Basic Paediatric Training and recognised Advanced Trainee status.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in paediatric medicine appropriate to level of training.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills within multidisciplinary environments.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure settings while maintaining patient-centred care and professional standards.
