As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years.  Rotations following the initial 12-months allocation as Advanced Trainee/Fellow Paediatric Oncology will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

About the role

The Advanced Trainee/Fellow in Paediatric Haematology/Oncology contributes to the provision of specialist inpatient and outpatient clinical services within WCHN under Consultant supervision. The role includes participation in after-hours and on-call duties, delivery of high-quality patient care, and active involvement in teaching, research, and clinical governance activities. The position supports advanced specialist training toward consultant-level practice.

Key duties of the role

• Provide inpatient and outpatient care for paediatric haematology/oncology patients in consultation with supervising Consultants and nursing staff.
• Participate in outpatient treatment clinics and coordinate ongoing patient assessment, management and follow-up.
• Contribute to after-hours and on-call service provision for the Haematology/Oncology Unit.
• Perform and interpret investigations and procedures under appropriate supervision, ensuring accurate clinical documentation.
• Participate in BTAG meetings, clinical review committees, mortality review, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.

Skills and Experience

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Completion of RACP Basic Paediatric Training and progression to Advanced Trainee status.
• Sound clinical skills in paediatrics appropriate to level of training, including acute care and procedural competence.
• Strong communication, teamwork and decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
• Commitment to patient-centred care, professional development and continuous quality improvement.
