About the role

The Nurse Consultant – Solid Tumour Cancer Care Coordinator provides expert nursing care, clinical leadership, and care coordination for children and young people with solid tumours and their families. The role supports patients throughout their treatment journey through assessment, education, referral, continuity of care, and service improvement to achieve optimal outcomes.

Key duties of the role

  • Integrate contemporary evidence, clinical expertise, and professional experience to support decision making, innovation, and delivery of expert nursing care.
  • Utilise information systems to support decision making, quality improvement, incident monitoring, outcome evaluation, and communication with staff.
  • Hold a contemporary professional practice portfolio containing evidence of postgraduate qualifications, learning and practice experience that underpin a demonstrable application of knowledge and skills commensurate with the level and type of practice expected of the role.
  • Contribute specialist expertise to monitor and evaluate research activities aimed at improving nursing practice and service delivery.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, consultation, and professional support as a role model and clinical resource person.

Skills and Experience

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.
  • Registered Nurse and or Midwife with at least 3 years post registration experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, problem-solving, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of solid tumour treatment protocols, relevant legislation, and National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
  • Proven ability to support staff development, lead change management, and promote consumer engagement initiatives.
